My mind feels like oatmeal right now. (Nice visual, right?)
My eyes are drooping, and I honestly can't read another word in the AP Stylebook or I just might go postal. I have no idea how reporters do it. All that research, and following all those rules. I know now why the life of a reporter is most definitely NOT the one for me. (That, and the fact that I HATE being confrontational and pushy. These, I believe, are requirements for being a good reporter. Oh, and I have a tendency to be easily intimidated as well. Not really a good fit.)
Anyhoo, I have to take a test for my editing class in the next couple of days, and while I believe I will do just fine on the test, I am NOT looking forward to it. I hate taking tests. It's not that I get all that nervous and worried about them, I'm pretty well prepared (in most cases). It's the fact that I have to take time out of my day, find a babysitter, and go sit in a freaking testing center for who knows how long in order to take the test. Oh, and this editing test? Yeah, it's going to take me over an hour to complete. [Side note: The professor gives us a 2 hour time limit, but I took just a little over an hour on the last exam for that class. I'm guessing it will be about the same for this one. Still a pain, and a MAJOR inconvenience. AAACCCKKK!!!]
Why can't I just take the test at home? I'm an honest person, I'm not going to cheat. And besides, this teacher lets us use our marked textbooks, notes and pretty much anything else we feel like bringing into the testing center with us. I can use that stuff at home and take the test over the Internet, can't I? Grrrr.... It's just asinine!
Okay, enough about that. For now.
My neck is a little messed up, but that's nothing compared to how my head has been feeling lately. I'd like to blame the crazy, manic weather that we have during the springtime here in Utah for these dizzy spells and sinus pressure, but I still get paranoid sometimes. I have to wonder if it's something more sinister.
My head doesn't really ache all that much, it's more like a strange, light-headed sensation with occasional heaviness that makes it so I can barely hold my head up. I nearly blacked out while driving to school the other morning. I had to pull over to recover for a minute or two. It totally freaked me out. When I get freaked out like that, it takes me a while to stop feeling freaked out. But when that weird sensation is STILL THERE days later, it's considerably worse. I'm practically having an anxiety attack right now.
On top of that, Ty's been called in to talk to his boss tomorrow morning. He has no idea what it's about. Apparently they're talking to all of the managers in the company, but the here's the weird part: All of the other managers at the store where Ty works are going to be together in the same interview. Ty has been called in for an individual, one-on-one meeting. I'm just really confused, because I have no idea what's coming, and I don't like being in the dark.
While I don't believe that Ty has done anything to get himself into trouble, (trust me, they LOVE him over there!), I can't help but be anxious all the same. You know why? Because I'm CRAZY! [Yeah, yeah, I know. Captain Obvious strikes again, right?]
So here I am, the kids are in bed, Ty is at work for at least another hour, and I'm in a quiet house with nothing but my irrational anxieties for company.
Geez! I need to calm down! Anybody have an amusing anecdote or maybe a nice mug of herbal tea? Ooh! That does sound good! Okay, off I go to make some tea. Anybody else want some? Let's see...I have Tension Tamer, Mint Medley, Chamomile, and Chamomile with Vanilla. Any takers?
Well, I'll go ahead and leave the kettle on the stove, just in case...

New Face, New School...
No, I didn't get plastic surgery. What I mean by "new face" is quite simply that I went from not wearing glasses at all to wearing glasses pretty much all the time. After a large number of visits to the ophthalmologist (for a very different, chronic problem), I finally got a prescription for glasses. Apparently I'm a bit nearsighted. (I've noticed for months that my distance vision is terrible.) Anyway, now I have glasses and the strangest thing has happened. I CAN SEE!!! It's crazy! I don't have to squint to read words on road signs, or while watching TV. It's like life in HD now! Yay for progress!
Also...I have been admitted to the "other school" I've been talking about and will be attending in the fall. I'm really excited about it! Tonight, Ty surprised me with a trip to the Univeristy's merchandise store to get me a treat to celebrate the new direction that my education will be taking. Isn't he sweet? I got a really cute shirt and a keychain, in case anyone was wondering.
As thrilled as I am to go to this new school, I'm also a little freaked out. It's going to be a HUGE change for me. The commute alone is going to be considerably more difficult for me now, even though the school isn't that much farther away from where I live than the school that I'm currently attending (geographically, at least). Not to mention the fact that this school is one of the best in the western United States, and the expectations for the students are very high. It's not that the school I've been going to isn't great, but this new school really is on a whole different level from what I've gotten used to. The pressure is on, people! (In a good way, though.)
Also, getting all of my classes transferred over, as well as my financial aid is going to take a lot of checking up on things, making sure everything is being done correctly. I also need to go to an orientation for transfer students and then make sure that I get the classes I need. Then there's making sure that I have everything in line to apply to my specific program. (This program is the whole reason I'm making this huge change.)
Anyway, it's a lot to think about. There are so many little details to take care of. I just have to keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it when all is said and done. Because it really will. This is an amazing school, and the program is supposed to be fantastic. I just have to do the work.
(Okay let's all just say it: "Quit worrying so much and let yourself be happy and excited, Candice. Everything will work out!")
Okay, I'm done for now. Have a good one, everybody! Hope you all survived "The Ides of March." :)
**Completely Random Subject Change** Oh! Oh! Crazy thing happened a couple of days ago! Ty and I were watching A&E the other night, and I heard MY DAD'S VOICE coming from our TV! I'd completely forgotten that he'd done a voice-over for a commercial a year or so ago. And now the commercial is on the air! Coolness, right?

So....Yeah.
I may have mentioned before my love for music. I love singing and playing the guitar. I grew up around music. I was a show choir geek all through high school. (Think of a less self-centered, much more introverted Rachel from "Glee".)
Singing has always been a very big part of my life. Then when I got married, my public performing opportunities became more limited. Now I mainly just sing for myself, my kids, and family gatherings. I've even sung for a couple of family funerals. I've always been happy with this, though. No regrets.
Over the past couple of weeks, I'm suddenly getting phone calls, asking me to sing for different occasions.
First, my big sister HJ called and asked me to come and sing a duet with her for a church activity in her neighborhood. We're scheduled for next month. Awesome. I love singing with HJ. We've had a lot of experience singing together, so this should be fun.
The very next night, my younger sister, MN (the one that just got married), called and asked me to come and sing at a church function for her neighborhood. (It was a last minute request, I performed the next night.) It went well, and I was glad to step in and help.
THEN, a couple of days later, my parents told me that my cousin is getting married on St. Patrick's Day. As a result of the wedding date, the theme is going to be all things Irish. Even the invitations have shamrocks on them. I think it's a pretty cute idea.
Anyway...I guess my dad was asked to play the guitar and sing a couple of traditional Irish songs for the wedding. This is no surprise, considering the fact that my dad is amazing.
Apparently, in the process of finding traditional Irish songs that would work for a wedding they found one called "Red is the Rose". It's a very beautiful song, and I guess while they were listening to it my parents decided that it was better suited to my voice than my dad's.
When I went over to their house for Sunday dinner a couple of weeks ago, they played the song for me and asked if I would be willing to sing it for the wedding. I said I'd be happy to do it, so long as my cousin and his soon-to-be wife were okay with it. (I mean, they had asked my DAD to sing, after all.)
Yesterday, I found out that I have been okayed to sing the song. I'm really quite honored. HOWEVER...Now they are talking about using the song for their first dance as a married couple! Now I'm all sorts of nervous! You only get one first dance, people! Come on, everybody, sing along: "Pressure. Pressing down on me, pressing down on you..." What? Don't even try to tell me you don't love Queen as much as I do!
So while I was at my parents' house for dinner last night my dad pulled out his guitar, and my youngest sister, NE, sat down at the piano. We all practiced the song together. It's really beautiful, as I said before.
Just one little glitch: It has four verses, two of which are so freaking sad, they just would NOT work for a wedding song! But...with some finagling, we cut out the depressing verses and made an arrangement that will work out very nicely. It will be great, so long as I don't screw up the words or anything. Cross your fingers!
I addition to "Red is the Rose", my dad is working with my brother MC on a really fun, upbeat song called "Rocky Road to Dublin". If they can get all of the words, keep a steady rhythm, and find a way to breathe at the right times, it should be great. It's a challenging song, but if anyone can pull it off, they can!
Also coming up this week:
Tomorrow morning, I'm giving a presentation in my Cognition class. Singing in public I'm usually pretty comfortable with. SPEAKING in public? NOT my favorite thing to do. Let's all just hope I don't end up standing there, babbling and rambling on like a moron. (But I probably will.)
Later this week, probably on Thursday afternoon/evening: I have a test in that same Cognition class. Ty and I are taking the class together, so we'll be studying for a couple of days before we both go in and take the test. Wish us luck!
Finally, on Friday...TY AND I WILL BE CELEBRATING OUR 11TH ANNIVERSARY!!!
I know, right? I'm amazed he's lasted this long. I'm not always the easiest person to live with, and somehow I've fooled him into thinking HE'S got the better end of the deal. Well, the joke's on him! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Anyway, that's the end of my rambling for now.
Have a good day/night/afternoon/evening. :)
